The wait is over, Colorado Deadheads! Here to resurrect the spirit of ‘60s bluegrass rock, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returns for the second year in a row to perform back-to-back hits at the Gerald R. The mountains are coming to life with the sounds of Grateful Dead as Joe Russo’s Almost Dead tribute act goes live at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater on Friday, May 31st! The tribute act’s latest weekend trip to Colorado is on the horizon, and this two-night stint will include one show each in Vail City and the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison.
It’s time for round two at the rugged venue! Back by popular demand, members Marco Benevento (keyboard), Dave Dreiwitz (bass), Tom Hamilton (guitar), Scott Metzger (guitar), and the vocal maestro Joe Russo himself are hitting the stage for the second time since their appearance last year. These longtime friends have been touring the world with covers from the Grateful Dead, an American band renowned for exploring elements of blues, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, gospel, reggae with world music.
Showing us that psychedelic rock is not dead, the dawn of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead signals a new era for this mixed genre. Previously known as The Warlocks, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers were popular for their improvised performances on top of becoming one of the highest-grossing bands for decades despite only having one top-40 single, “Touch of Grey.”
“These guys are so much more than a Grateful Dead cover band. Sure, their energetic interpretations of classic Dead tunes are unmatched, but it is their timing, nuance, song selection, and sequence that make the shows so special… that ability to be unique, while still staying within the Dead tradition, showed itself throughout the show. ,” Pollstar News shared.
